Mercian Charcoal is working in partnership with Leicestershire County Council & The National Forest to produce artisan charcoal from sustainably managed woodlands across the Midlands. In doing so, we’re keeping a traditional woodland craft alive and producing charcoal from sustainable sources with a low carbon footprint.
Managed woodlands boost biodiversity, in other words providing great places for insects, animals and birds to thrive.
All too often the cheaper forms of charcoal come from unsustainable forests and leads to long term environmental damage to forests. Plus it is shipped across the world creating a large carbon footprint. It is also soaked in petroleum-based lighting fluid and other chemicals to make it burn better.
In all, it’s definitely not good for the environment.
